Firstly I try and keep everything I need to back up in the minimum number of folders on my hard drive.
The " My Documents " folder should contain the bulk of what you need to back up.
- All your documents
- A folder with your internet favourites saved in ( or you should just use Delicious and you would always have your internet favourites and across all browsers)
- Passwords , Banking Information
- Instant Message Profiles ( Google search on how to do this )
- Software you have purchased or downloaded
- Music ( you have purchased or downloaded )
Your e mails and address book if you do not use a web based e mail solution and if you think about it you should , makes it easier if the worst happens.
Now we come to photo's and movies.
Photo's ,I consider, are probably the most important thing to back up because they are memories.
Make sure you keep your photo's in one place on your computer , as I have seen them , in some older systems mind you , in up to 3 different places.
Movies can also be kept all over the place so make sure you organise your hard drive.
Think of your hard drive as like a filing cabinet and organise it accordingly , it will make it so much easier.
